What to expect from a consultation | On arriving at the clinic you will be greeted by one friendly receptionists who will take some preliminary details from you. The initial consultation takes approximately 45-60 minutes, depending on the complexity of the case. During this time we will take a full case history and then examine you in order to identify the cause of your pain. After this we will discuss the diagnosis with you and the plan for management. This will usually involve some form of manual therapy and possibly the prescription of some exercises. We allow 30 minutes for subsequent treatments. During these sessions we will review your progress and continue the management approach as required. |
What do I need to wear to my appointment? | We advise our patients to wear loose-fitting, casual clothing to appointments. It is typical during an appointment to undress to your underwear or have your top off so that we can see your spine. If you are uncomfortable with this please let your Osteopath know. |
What we treat? | We treat patients of all ages from newborn babies to people in their nineties. Obviously the conditions will vary depending on the age group. Common conditions we treat are;
We treat children, women during and after pregnancy with back and pelvic pain and elderly patients with arthritic conditions. |
Do I need a referral | You do not need a referral as Osteopaths are primary care practitioners. However we do often receive referrals from GP's and other allied health professionals so if you have a referral letter, please bring it along. |
Can I receive treatment if I am pregnant? | Yes you absolutely can. At Knox Osteopathic Clinic we love to treat women throughout their pregnancy and postpartum. Osteopathic treatment is safe and effective in relieving many of the aches and pains associated with pregnancy. |
Do you treat patients under workcover/workcare, TAC and Veterans Affairs? | At Knox Osteopathic Clinic we are happy to treat patients who have been injured through work or motor vehicle accidents as well as returned service patients. Please advise our receptionist upon booking if you have a claim with one of the above bodies. When you call to make your first appointment please make sure you bring all relevant documentation, your claim number and your insurer's details with you so we can add these to your file. TAC and workcover appointments will incur a small gap fee for the treatment. Please speak to one of our receptionists for further details. |
Can I claim on my private health insurance? | Yes you can. Provided that your cover includes extras, we have HICAPS facilities at the clinic which means that you can receive your private health cover rebate on the spot. |
Payment options. | Payment is due at the time of the consultation. We accept cash, EFTPOS, Visa, Mastercard and Amex. |
Is Osteopathy covered by Medicare? | Yes your Osteopathic consultation can be partially covered by Medicare. To be eligible, you must qualify as having a chronic medical condition. Speak to your GP about your condition and whether it qualifies for a Chronic Disease Management Plan (CDM), formally known as EPC (Enhanced Primary Care). You will then receive a referral form for our clinic. You may be eligible for a rebate on up to 5 Osteopathic treatments per calendar year. Payment for your consultation is required in full at the end of your consult. We then process your Medicare rebate on the spot provided that you have an EFTPOS card (not a credit card) for the rebate. The current rebate as of July 2023 is $58. The rebate will arrive into your bank account registered with Medicare within a few days. |
